What is a patient stretcher used for?

2025-08-01

Patient stretchers are primarily designed for short-term use by a patient, either to transfer a patient from one area of the hospital to another, or for a surgical procedure.

When should a stretcher be used?

Responders typically use this stretcher for patients with very limited mobility or who are too weak or injured to move, and there is no elevator.

How to use a hospital stretcher?

Grasp the stretcher/bed with both hands as close to waist/elbow height as possible (adjust the height of the bed/stretcher as needed). Use handles if available. Keep your wrists straight. Place one foot in front of the other.

What is the purpose of stretcher bars?

A stretcher bar is used to construct a wooden stretcher used by artists to mount their canvases. Interior angle of a completed stretcher bar corner showing the slot designed to fit a Corner key. A fully assembled stretcher bar corner. Two unassembled stretcher bars displaying corner mitre construction.

Can you do CPR on a stretcher?

The three methods had no statistically significant differences in adequate chest compression depth (percentage). Still, both kneeling on the kneeling stool (KK) and one knee kneeling on a stretcher (KS) achieved better adequate chest recoil, so we recommend using these two methods for high-quality CPR in the ED.
